Next door on Angel Court after Hurricane Isaias: a solar shingle roof, an oak across the pool enclosure, and the patio eave pulled loose
Same street, same storm, different damage. This brick home on Angel Court in Gulf Breeze has an architectural shingle roof carrying a solar array, and the first thing the flight does after the neighborhood wide shot is climb onto that roof. Solar panels on a hurricane claim are their own line: the panels, the racking, the roof penetrations under them, and whether the array is even covered on this policy. Check the declarations before you assume.
The bigger loss here is the oak. It came down across the screened pool enclosure and the privacy fence, and the flight follows it from the yard to the crushed enclosure frame to the back patio, where the eave, fascia, and gutter are pulled off the brick and the porch ceiling is open. Enclosures, fences, and detached structures sit under "other structures" coverage, usually capped at ten percent of the dwelling limit. Tree removal has its own sublimit. Knowing those caps before the first conversation with the carrier is the difference between a fair settlement and a surprise.
We represent both of these Angel Court homeowners. If your house in Gulf Breeze, Tiger Point, or Navarre has a tree on it, call us before you sign anything with a contractor or a carrier.
