Pensacola Beach the morning after Hurricane Isaias: roofs opened, a condo tower stripped, metal roofing in the sand

This is the first flight Partridge Drones made for us, three days after Isaias made landfall and before the tarps went on. Overcast, low light, nothing staged. It starts over the residential blocks on the Gulf side of Santa Rosa Island, drops in on individual roofs, then climbs past the commercial strip and a Gulf-front condominium tower before finishing with a long look down the island.

Two things stand out to a public adjuster. First, the roofs that opened did not fail at the shingle. They failed at the deck and the rafter, which means the claim is a roof system and the interior below it, not a patch. Second, the condo tower lost balcony walls and sliders on the upper floors. That is building envelope damage on an association policy, and the water that came through those openings belongs to the same claim.

If your building is in this footage, or on the same street, we can pull the frames that show it. Coyne Commercial Group represents commercial property owners, condominium associations, and HOAs across the Panhandle on Isaias claims.

Shot list for the 1:06 flight over Pensacola Beach

There is no narration on this footage. This is what is on screen at each point of the flight, written by the public adjuster who commissioned it.

  1. 0:00

Wide over the Gulf-side residential blocks of Pensacola Beach. Houses on pilings, one already under a purple tarp, debris on the sand lots.

  2. 0:08

A two-story teal house with the roof torn open to the rafters. Shingles and decking gone, insulation and interior framing exposed.

  3. 0:17

A full standing-seam metal roof panel lying in a sand lot, fasteners still in it, well away from whatever building it came off.

  4. 0:25

Low pass over a shingle roof: shingles stripped, underlayment torn, decking boards and batt insulation open to the sky.

  5. 0:33

Pull back over the neighborhood. A white house with a square section of roof peeled to the sheathing, metal roofing pieces on neighboring lots.

  6. 0:41

Climb past a mid-rise hotel on the commercial strip near the Pensacola Beach core, parking lot and taller towers behind it.

  7. 0:50

The east face of a Gulf-front condominium tower. Balcony walls and stucco ripped off on multiple floors, exposing framing and sliders.

  8. 0:58

Long view down Santa Rosa Island with the Gulf on one side and Santa Rosa Sound on the other, tarped roofs the whole way.
